Job Description

System integration, software installation, regression testing, and root cause analysis of software bugs found during testing on autonomous underwater and surface vehicles.

What did you enjoy most about the program?

I enjoyed the countless hours on the research vessel, the commitment and helpfulness of the staff that always made themselves available, and of course the beautiful stretch of coastline we were lucky enough to study.

Why did you choose this program?

Humboldt called out to me because of the hands-on undergraduate program for their marine sciences. There were few institutions where opportunities like working in a marine lab and working for NOAA on an ocean sampling line were available for undergraduate students.

What would you say to prospective students who are thinking about applying to this program?

I would greatly recommend applying and visiting the facilities prior to committing. It’s a very easy place to fall in love with and the small size of the program makes it easy to get to know your professors!

Other comments?

Explore early the possibilities for what emphasis you’re interested in within the program. I made the mistake of thinking I was a biology guy and did not take the class until end of my sophomore year. Turned out I strongly disliked biology. It extended my stay by a year where I decided to get my minor in applied mathematics, which turned out to be the best decision I made at Humboldt!
